Comments on Grants and Plats to Robert Love
Note that there were multiple men by the name Robert Love who appear to be receiving lands in these records. Our Robert Love, the father of Samuel would appear to be the one who received land on Hanging Rock Creek, 163 acres in the 1762 grant, 300 acres in the 1768 plat and associated memorial from 1775. Most of the other records appear to refer to another Robert Love who made a will in 1779 (probated the same year) of Craven County, Camden District, who mentions land on Morrison Creek and some other land. All these other lands appear to be in later Chester County area.
1786 Lease – James Love to James Nichol – 300 Acres

James “Nickle” sold 100 acres of this land to James Purdey in 1790 (DB C&E, p253, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS73-JG13?lang=en&i=425)

This appears to be the corresponding release for the land leased in 1786. Oddly, the lease and release give a different date for the grant to Robert Love. This release specifically states that land was granted to “Robert Love Father of the said James Love and the said James Love being Heir at Law to the Estate of the said Robert Love Decd.”

A plat for this land was recorded with the deed. The land was resurveyed and granted to Samuel Love due to loss of papers. The survey was done 13 Jan 1830. This land appears to be the same which was sold a couple years later by Samuel W. Love to Joel Love. Then in 1839, it was sold again by Samuel B. Emmons and M. A. Tuttle to Evan Rollins.

1839 Deed – Samuel B. Emmons & Mary A. Tuttle to Evan Rollins – 189 Acres
Acreage & Location: 189 Acres on Little Lynches Creek described by a plat dated 31 Dec 1831 in deed from Samuel Love to Samuel W. Love
Bounded By: Estate of Samuel Love, Jefferson Horton, Anderson Bowers, and Jane Horton
This land had also been previously sold by Samuel W. to Joel in an 1833 deed. After the 1839 deed, there is an attestation by Thursey A. Love, wife of “the within named Joel Love,” that she was relinquishing her share of the premises to Evan Rollins. This is odd add Joel Love is never mentioned in this deed. However, he would appear to have been the previous owner per the 1833 deed.

Acreage & Location: 1000 acres, “the plantation whereon I now live”
Bounded By: William Ingram, Widow Horton, Evan Rollins, John & James Reeves, Susanna Caston

Margaret states in this deed this is land “I hold under the Will of my deceased husband Samuel Love.” Robert A. Crimminger (spelled both Criminger and Crimminger in the record) witnessed the mortgage. The date of this mortgage was 29 Mar 1842. Overwritten in the the mortgage written from bottom to top of the page is a lengthy witnessed statement by John Adams that the balance of the mortgage had been paid and settled by F. Crimminger and that Adams was relinquishing all claim to the mortgage and lands. This was dated 11 Jan 1843. This was witnessed by Catharine J. Crimminger.
Note that Margaret states it includes “the plantation whereon I now live.” In a previous deed from 1839, Joel Love’s interest in 500 acres “whereon Mrs Love lives” was sold to Hagans, Tuttle, and Emmons by the sheriff. This would be the 1000 acres later sold by John Adams as sheriff to Samuel B. Emmons in an 1845 deed.

This is a mortgage for “one negro man slave called Tom, one called Bill, and a negro woman called Hanna, and her child called Tom” which she received “under the will of my deceased husband Samuel Love.” The mortgage note was jointly made by Margaret Love and Frederick Crimminger. The grantors in this deed are Joel Love, S. W. Love, Abigail Love, Sarah Love, F. Criminger, Mary Criminger, and M. J. Catoe. From other records, it appears from an 1833 deed Sarah Love was the wife of Samuel W. Love. There was also a declaration from a private examination of Abigail Love for this deed which was recorded later in the same deed book which states she was the wife of Joel Love.
The reference to the survey indicates this was part of the 1830 Plat for 266 acres on branches of Little Lynches Creek. The survey was made by William McDonald and dated 11 May 1830 as this deed states.
