He was likely a grandson of the elder Peter Vincent since he was born about 1795 in South Carolina according to the 1850 census, which lists him as W. K. Vinson.13 In the household are M. The only other person in his household is a woman age 45 and upwards who could potentially be his mother. By 1830, it appears he had married as there is additionally a woman in his own age category in the household along with a girl age 5-10, two girls under five, and one boy under five. The older woman is still with him. He is listed next to James Ingram on that census. In 1840, the older woman is no longer with them, but his apparent wife is listed in the 50-60 category while he is listed in the 40-50 category. With them are a girl age 15-20, one age 10-15, and two age 5-10. Additionally there are two boys, one age 15-20, the other 5-10. It would appear the youngest boy is the W. H. Vincent who appears on the 1850 census while two of the girls would be the M. E. and M. A. Vincent. It would appear that his wife had died by 1850, perhaps within a year since there is a female with initial F. age one with him. It’s also possible the youngest was a grandchild.

Willis first bought land in 1834 when he purchased 66 acres from Rachel Miller.17 In 1843, he bought 44 acres of land from James Cauthen lying on headwaters of Little Lynches Creek alongside of land he already owned.18 Finally in 1852, he bought 35 3/4 acres from John F.
